Top fundraising tips

Tricks of the trade to help you deliver a safe and successful fundraising event. As well as raising vital funds to support Refuge, we also want to ensure your fundraising is safe, legal… and fun for everyone involved!

What are friends for?

Recruit your friends and family to help you out. Ask them to share your fundraising across their own networks too. The more the merrier!

Shout about it!

Use social media to regularly share your fundraising activities and events. Post frequent updates, and don’t be afraid to keep asking for sponsorship.

Tell people what you’re doing and why

Let everyone know why you’re raising funds for Refuge. Why not ask your employer if they’ll match what you raise – or support you with your event, or even reach-out to the local paper!

Don’t forget Gift Aid

Ask UK tax payers to tick the Gift Aid box when making a donation online or on your sponsorship form to reclaim an extra 25p of every £1 at no cost to them or you. Make sure you ask for full names and home addresses, as without these we can’t make a claim.

Boxing Events

While we completely understand that many boxing events are entirely safe and legal – we are conscious not to align ourselves to events like these as it can upset some donors and service users, and pose a potential reputational risk to our organisation due to the nature of our cause. It is for this reason that we are unable to accept donations generated from boxing events.

We are also unable to accept donations from any event that objectifies women or contributes to the objectification of women.

Materials and resources

If you’d like Refuge fundraising materials – such as balloons and collection tins – tell us about your plans, and we’ll be sure to support you as much as we can!

Keep it legal

Don’t forget to make sure whatever you do in support of Refuge is safe and legal. Our free fundraising pack has lots of information to put your mind at ease, but if you have any other questions, just get in touch
